CONCLUSION
Half a century ago, Malaysia was a pioneer of Unclaimed Moneys legislation. Since then, many other countries have followed Malaysia's lead.
Each country with such legislation has its own procedures, but a common theme is the introduction of more online services to make it easier for organisations to report unclaimed funds, and for owners to claim forgotten moneys. Not only do the individual claimants benefit, but the statistics show that with greater general awareness, more funds are reported, and the government recovers (and eventually retains) a larger cash sum for its revenue account.
The Act is already useful, but having more people aware of it (and complying with it) should bring additional benefit.
We hope that this small book will, in its own way, help to inform more people about the Unclaimed Moneys Act, and the good work of the Registrar of Unclaimed Moneys (Accountant General’s Department) of the Ministry of Finance.
